Understanding Evolution from Different Perspectives Why Some People Do Not Accept Evolution

There are various reasons on why some people do not accept the idea of evolution. It is a known fact that people are inclined to have different beliefs and it evolution is not exempted from this. People have different perspectives regarding things for they have their own reasons to believe in what they believe.

According to Robert Jurmain, Lynn Kilgore, and Wenda Trevathan (33), science does not always provide people with exact answers regarding most questions, which is why some people refuse to believe that evolution is an absolute truth. Another reason would be the fact that people are raised from different cultures which have different sets of beliefs which do not support the concept of evolution, particularly the biological continuity between species (Jurmain, Kilgore, and Trevathan 33).
Apart from these, some people are inclined to believe that their religion does not correspond with the teachings of science. Despite the fact that there are individuals who accept evolution and Gods existence at the same time, there are still a lot of individuals who believe that the concept of evolution is different from the concept of the Creation. Some of these individuals take the Bible literally and they feel that science is wrongfully trying to discredit the Bible through evolution (Jurmain, Kilgore, and Trevathan 33).

Evolution According to Different Fields of Science
There are several scientific fields which support the concept of evolution. These are the fields of geology, biogeography, comparative anatomy, embryology, and molecular biology.

It is stated that geology is a field of science that is overlooked when it comes to the concept of evolution however, it proves to be very important to the discussion regarding evolution. It is known that evolution began due to climate changes which spurred vegetation however, it is not clear what caused such climate change (Mosher).

The answer is geologyand how tectonics altered continents and created mountains. One example is the movement of the Earths crust in South Africa which created valleys, basins, and various volcanic activities which eventually caused climate changes within the region. Most of the jungles in the region, due to climate change, eventually became woodlands and savannas thus, various organisms had to adapt to their environment, compelling them to evolve (Mosher).

Another field which supports the concept of evolution is the field of biogeography. According to Michael Ghiselin (38), the study of biogeography enabled Darwin to discover evolution. In fact, the most reliable and strongest argument which supports evolution is the geographical evidence for there are evidence which show a detailed evolutionary treatment of both plant and animal distribution (Ghiselin 32). It was stated that Darwin knew that developing a comprehensive system of biogeography would show the great utility of the evolutionary theory as a guide to scientific investigation (Ghiselin 38) therefore, it could be said that biogeography played an important role in the development of the theory of evolution.

The field of comparative anatomy also provides proof for the concept of evolution. According to John Howland Campbell and J. William Schopf (5), comparative anatomy shows that evolution is real by illustrating various similarities in the forelimbs of dogs, humans, birds, whales. In analysis, since the bone structures of these organisms have similarities, it is arguable that such characteristics were acquired from the same ancestor.

Another proof of evolution comes from the field of embryology. It is said that different species within the same class have the same embryo however, these embryo are different as they develop. Darwin argues that the development of the embryo to an adult only proves that the theory of evolution is logical. In a way, the embryo proves that different species may root from the same ancestral species, but will eventually become modified as it proceeds through the life cycle (Fitch).

Lastly, another field which aims to prove evolution is molecular biology. This field proves the theory of evolution by showing that the unity of life is possible through the DNAs nature as well as through the workings of organisms at the level of enzymes and other protein molecules (Ayala 118). Apart from this, molecular biology proves evolution by showing that it is possible to establish previously unexplained and unknown evolutionary relationships (Ayala 118) in order to refine, time, and confirm how each organism is related to the universal common ancestor (Ayala 118) through evolution.

In analysis, it could be said that there are, indeed, various interpretations to the concept of evolution, depending on the field of study in question. It is, of course, arguable that the five aforementioned fields support each other in proving that the theory of evolution is not far from truth.
